On the morning of November 1, Zhou Shungui, alumnus of the Class of 1956 from the College of Electronic Science and Engineering of Southeast University, visited his alma mater. In the new building of the college, Pan Zhiyu, alumnus of Southeast University class of 1986, Huang Jianzhong, alumnus of Southeast University class of 1987, Huang Ru, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Southeast University, Huang Dawei and Sun Litao, vice presidents of Southeast University, heads of the the College of Electronic Science and Engineering, young teacher representatives and student representatives attended the welcome ceremony.
At the ceremony, the university conferred the title “Honorary Trustee of Southeast University” on Zhou Shungui. Huang Ru presented Zhou with the letter of appointment.
Secretary of the Party Committee of the college, Jiang Xuehua, introduced the personal experience of Zhou Shungui and his selfless contribution to the development of the college, while Dean Ni Zhenhua introduced the construction plan of “Shungui Laboratory” and the future vision of the college based on the upgrading of the experimental conditions.
Feng Chenran, a 2023 undergraduate student, has drawn a special sketch portrait of Zhou, and the lab, presenting it to him on behalf of all electronics students. Zhou expressed that he kept appreciating the school’ s traning after leaving the alma mater, giving back to the school is a responsibility for him. He hoped that “Shungyu Laboratory” could cultivate more outstanding talents for the country.
Zhou Shungui was admitted to the Radio Department of Nanjing Institute of Technology in 1956, majoring in electro-vacuum (now the School of Electronic Science and Engineering of Southeast University), and went to Japan one year later to pursue further studies, obtaining a doctorate degree at the University of Tokyo. After graduation, Zhou founded EICO in Silicon Valley, engaging in semiconductor manufacturing business, and has been a business angel since 1992. Zhou is grateful to his alma mater and the college.On September 22, 2020, he donated $5 million to his alma mater through the Education Foundation of Southeast University, which was used to support the construction of the Advanced Materials and Devices Laboratory of the college.
